Pirate Birthday Party Ideas & Games

Game of Chance

This is a modified version of the card game 41. On this modified version, the goal is to reach a number nearest to the birthday celebrant’s magic number (his/her date of birth, age, etc).

Not familiar with the original 41 game? Click here for more details.

Clues Treasure Hunt

You need a number of treasures to be hunted, and if this party is for somebody’s birthday, be sure to pick treasures significant to the teen of the hour.

This treasure hunt will be quite interesting because clues of what the item is and where they could look for it, will be given to each of the participant.

Start by dividing your guests into groups of at least 5. Ask one representative per group to pick out their color. The color assigned to them will define which of the clues should they locate.

Hidden in the game area are the items that come in each group’s color. Even the clues are color-coded. The clues and items with their color should be the only thing each group will be interested in.

Only the initial clue will be directly provided to each group. The rest they have to locate, so that finally, they could find all the hidden items that comes in their group's color. The group that could locate the most number of items within the time limit, wins the game. If all groups were able to finish on time, the one who was able to do so within the shortest time, wins the prize.

Tip:

  • Clues could be description of the item  (eg. Book – His/her favorite past time) or about where it is located (eg. Kitchen – His/her favorite room).

  • Each group should be hunting for similar treasures. However, the location of where these treasures are hidden, and the order of how treasures are hunted, could be different between each group.

  • There should be connections between each clue and succeeding clues.

  • The unearthing of hidden treasures should follow the order assigned to the group. If Group 1 found Treasure 3, before they found Treasure 2, when their order states that Treasure 2 should come before Treasure 3, Treasure 3 will not be counted as their find, unless they find Treasure 2 as well.

Drinking Contest

This is a variation of the popular game Musical Chairs. However, instead of chairs and music, what will happen is that two root beer bottles or ale will get passed around.

Once the music stops, whoever has the root beer/ale need to guzzle them down. The person who finishes last is out of the game. Before game resumes, new root beer/ales are made available, the music starts, and the passing of the root beer/ales, starts all over again.

Scavenger Hunt

This will play like a typical scavenger hunt, wherein each group will have a list of things to do or get, with the fastest group with the most number of accomplished tasks winning the game.

Depending on the tasks on your list (you can opt to customize the list we have below), be sure to prepare a budget that your guests can use for this game.

Here’s a list of things to do and get, customized for your mates:

  • Win a (root beer) drinking contest at a local pub

  • Win a card game at a local pub

  • Eat a whole pie from a local bakery

  • Find some treasures – this list will be a wish list from the host or the celebrant

  • Find the best sea shell – to be judged by the host or celebrant

  • Find the best pirate costume – one of the group members need to wear it and have his/her photo taken, to be judged by the host or celebrant

  • Give a rowdy performance in front of an audience - rowdiness will certified by pub owner

  • Find hidden treasure – hidden treasure here can be anything that belongs to the host or celebrant. The group must find it with the help of a treasure map

  • Catch a cute guy/girl – get the phone number of 3 single and cute guys or/and girls. Cuteness will be certified by the host or celebrant so be sure to take some photos.

  • Win a bulls eye (dart) match at a local pub
