When we say your chosen theme will be everywhere, it's really everywhere. Even in your adult birthday party menu!

Mystery Adult Birthday Party Menu

Think of your favorite detective or mystery novel. Now think of the title. Could you associate a particular food to the title? How about your favorite detective character? Does s/he have a favorite dish that you could serve in your party? For example, you could serve something wherein maple is its main ingredient, and call it “Agatha Christie’s Miss Maple” (if you’re a fan of Agatha Christie, you will know that she wrote many Miss Marple mysteries). Or you could serve chicken wings and call it “Martha Grimes’ Hot Chicken” or something like that. That should give you an idea on how to build your menu for this particular theme!

Another approach is to ask your friends for their family’s secret recipe (or they could cook it for you if they prefer to keep the recipe secret). Your guests will definitely have a mysterious gathering, not to mention a very tasty one, to look forward to!

Or if you’re interested, we know two cookbooks, written with mystery in mind. One’s entitled Appetite for Murder: A Mystery Lover’s Cookbook by Kathy Borich, while another is written by no other than Carolyn Keene, entitled The Nancy Drew Cookbook: Clues to Good Cooking.

For your cake, a jigsaw puzzle cake is one option. A rubik’s cube cake is also worth considering. Or better yet, just bake a plain cake and icing many question marks on it.

And lastly, prepare some gray punch (Halloween punch) to wash everything down.

Pajama Party Menu

When planning what food to serve, ask yourself if you want to make things simple (meaning going for takeout rather than preparing things yourself) or making the food yourself which means making your own burger, sandwich, fries, tacos and maybe some cookies or cupcakes for dessert. Make sure you have lots of servings and have the microwave accessible since we bet many will go for 3rd or 4th servings.

Whether you go one way or the other, make sure you have tons of chips (popcorn!) and soda. Some ice cream and cake will be wonderful additions.

You might also want to include virgin cocktails in your menu  since that will definitely add to the party feel, but if you decided not to do so, that should also be fine.

To make clean up easy, prepare lots of paper plates and other disposable eating utensils. Make sure everybody knows where the trash goes to lessen the morning after cleanup.

Pajama parties usually mean preparing a good breakfast as well. Again, depending on how simple you want things to be, you can just make sure that you have lots of corn flakes, milk, bread and marmalade, or go for the more elaborate version of pancakes, omelet and bacon. As usual, whether you go one way or the other, just make sure you have a lot, since we bet your guests will have a healthy morning appetite after that enjoyable night!

Pirate Adult Birthday Party Menu

Seafood dishes should be part of your pirate repertoire. Fish crackers, dry biscuit and some stew to go with that will be very piratey and therefore fitting. Serving chicken wings will be great and some tropical fruits like pineapple and orange will be refreshing additions.

Another approach is to serve black yet delicious dishes. Squid ink pasta, black bean soup, black pepper chicken, dark chocolate desserts are just a few examples.

Provide some tin plates and mugs for your guests. You can prepare some utensils for your more fussy guests, but eating your food with bare hands is encouraged on any pirate party.

Your cake should be made with at least one of the tropical fruits as a major ingredient. Although we doubt that pirates will have time to bake a cake when they’re on their ship, but the fact that this cake will have pineapple and other tropical ingredients in it is a nice enough compromise.

You can opt to prepare some pirate punch (more like tropical punch, we’ll leave it to you whether to spike it with rum) or just serve some rootbeer float. Either ideas will work nicely with what you have prepared for your pirate party.

Pirate Young Adult Birthday Party Menu

Anything that can be eaten by hand are good candidates for your food choices. This means your typical serving of French fries and onion rings are worth considering. However, serving something seafood are more fitting so fried calamari and/or fish and chips are definitely in.

Pirates are known to eat some kind of stew and dry biscuits so you might want to serve your version of this for your pirate party. Serving chicken wings will be great and some tropical fruits like pineapple and orange will be refreshing additions.

If you’re up to going a wee bit gourmet, another approach is to serve black yet delicious dishes. Squid ink pasta, black bean soup, black pepper chicken, dark chocolate desserts are just a few examples.

Provide some tin plates and mugs for your guests. You can prepare some utensils for your more fussy guests, but eating your food with bare hands is encouraged on any pirate party.

You can choose any flavor for your cake, but just make sure it’s shaped as a pirate ship or a treasure chest. Although we doubt that pirates will have time to bake a cake when they're on their ship, but the fact that this cake comes with the right piratey elements should be a nice enough compromise.

You can opt to prepare some pirate punch (more like tropical punch) or just serve some root beer float. Either ideas will work nicely with what you have prepared for your pirate party.

Pooh Birthday Party Menu

Salads (from Rabbit's garden) are the perfect way to start your Pooh party menu. It could be followed by your main course, wherein honey is one of the main ingredients. Honey fried chicken, honey curried chicken, honey walnut shrimps, those are just the tip of the iceberg.

Another approach to your party food is to choose a bear's favorite food as one of the ingredients. This will mean any dish that includes berries, apple, and peaches are definitely in. Your main course can feature your favorite rabbit, venison or crayfish recipes. Mushrooms and corn are also popular with bears so you might also want to check some recipes that feature them as ingredients.

But since you need to ensure that the kiddies of your group will enjoy their meal as well, serving fried chicken and spaghetti with your other Pooh-themed dishes will not make your menu any less theme-based.

Honey is one of the popular ingredients of different cakes and pastries, so you will not have any difficulty when it comes to your cake. And it could also come in different shapes - Rabbit's carrot, Pooh's hunny jar, a balloon, and the like.

For your punch, you could choose any punch, but instead of using sugar, you could use honey instead. Of course, you might have to single out flavors that will really work great with honey. Just to give you a hint, lime and iced tea are fantastic with honey, and should be prioritized.

Prince Birthday Party Menu

Just think of your favorite fairy tale wherein a prince met her princess and lived happily ever after and you can come up with some great food repertoire for your party. But since you have both adult and young guests to please, make sure that you serve something that will satisfy the palate of your not so young guests and make your kiddie guests happy as well.

No idea where to start? How about some pea soup for starters (The Princess and the Pea), followed by an angel hair pasta dish (this reminds us of Rapunzel’s hair!) for your main course? Seafood dishes (Little Mermaid) are also welcome but if you prefer to serve fried chicken and other non-prince party favorites for your younger guests, that should also be fine. Finish that wonderful meal with some great apple pie (Snow White) and some blue lemonade to wash everything down.

Another approach to your food repertoire is to play with the name of your food. Serving some hotdogs? They might not be perfect for a prince party as it is, but calling it firedog definitely makes it better. Serving chicken wings? Just call them dragon wings and you’re all set.

You can also add lots of blue pastries and dishes to make your food offerings perfect for a prince birthday party.

Still deciding what cake to prepare? We think that a cake in the shape of a horse, a sword or a shield is definitely worth considering. But if you prefer a simpler cake, just go with any cake with white and blue frosting since that is still a wonderful addition to any prince party menu.

Princess Birthday Party Menu

Just think of your favorite fairy tale and you can come up with some great food repertoire for your party.

Seafood dishes (Little Mermaid) are also welcome but if you prefer to serve fried chicken and other non-princess party favorites for your younger guests, that should also be fine. Finish that wonderful meal with some great apple pie (Snow White) and some pink lemonade or punch to wash everything down.

Still deciding what cake to prepare? We think that a cake in the shape of Cinderella’s glass shoe or her pumpkin carriage is quite cool and is definitely worth considering. But if you prefer a simpler cake, just go with any cake with white and pink frosting since that is still a wonderful addition to any princess party menu.

Rock and Roll Young Adult Birthday Party Menu

There are many ways to approach your rock and roll party food, and once you go through our ideas, you should have specifics on what to serve whether you want to prepare small snacks or big meals.

One of the simplest way to approach your party food is to serve foods commonly served on bars or wherever rock bands normally share their music to their adoring public. This doesn’t necessarily mean you will be required to serve beer or liquor, since what we mean here is more on the fish and chips variety rather than beer or long island iced tea.

Another way to approach your party meals is to pick out your rock star’s favorite cuisine. So if you happen to think that anything produced by Aerosmith is the best song ever written, then you might want to serve some Italian dishes on your party, since it happens to be a favorite of Steve Tyler. Love Jon Bon Jovi? Then you might go for fajitas and burritos instead. Want another approach in line with this? Just serve famous food from their hometown (this can be a Hero sandwich or a Jersey pizza if you happen to love this New Jersey band) and you’re all set.

Last but not the least, you can go for food named after your favorite artists. Love Elvis? Then be sure to enjoy some Elvis sandwich with your mates. Want some ice cream? Did you know that Ben and Jerry’s Cherry Garcia ice cream was named after Jerry Garcia, late guitarist of the Grateful Dead? If this happens to be a favorite flavor, serving it on your party will not just satisfy your craving, it will also be a fitting addition to what you have prepared so far.

If you want to have more variety on the food you’re serving, we think that serving dishes wherein a major ingredient comes from a rock band’s name will be quite cool (check this out), and will give you lots of choices.

Since you might not want to serve any alcohol on your party, we think that serving root beer, ale, virgin cocktails is a good enough alternative. Be sure to prepare lots since it will be a shame if you’ll run out of drinks in the midst of everything.

We bet there will be a lot of trash after your big night, so to make clean up easy, make use of paper plates and other disposable eating utensils. Make sure everybody knows where the trash goes to lessen the after party cleanup.

Shrek Birthday Party Menu

Shrek parties are definitely kid-friendly when it comes to food since many of kid favorites will be perfect additions for Shrek parties as well. How about some Dragon dogs? This is just your typical hotdog, carved to make it appear to have a scale or two. Pizza, pizza? Going for a green pizza (you can use a spinach-based sauce or make do with a cheeseburger pizza with lots of green toppings) is the way to go to make it work perfectly for a Shrek party. Since Shrek and family lives near a swamp, serving some “frog legs” will also be fitting. Don’t worry, we won’t advise you to serve frog meat here.  You can pass off some chopped chicken wings to make it appear to be a part or two of a frog and that will work nicely. If you want to add more food from what we’ve already listed above, going for something green (spaghetti al pesto, pea soup, chips w/ guacamole) is the way to go.

Snow White, Cinderella, and the other princesses are all over the Shrek movies, so we think serving dishes as a tribute to them is very fitting. So this means anything with apple (Snow White), pumpkin (Cinderella), and angel hair pasta (Rapunzel) are very welcome. Since you can easily add these to the previous ideas, that should give you enough choices on what to serve on your Shrek party.

Dessert is definitely not a problem, since with chocolate being the right hue for a Shrek party, anything with chocolate will be great. Just name your chocolate dish with the word mud (mud mallows, mud cake, and the like) and it’s not just friendly to your kiddies’ taste buds, it’s also a theme-based addition to your party.

For your cake, we think a birthday cake in Gingy’s shape is cool. Although if you prefer having a green cake with some Shrek characters as decorations or a chocolate ice cream cake, either will work with your chosen theme as well.

If you think your kids will welcome another round of something chocolate, you can serve some chocolate-based drink. We do think that serving something more refreshing and greenish like Mountain Dew and other green fruit juice are worthy alternative.

Spa Adult Birthday Party Menu

You have two options on how to approach your party menu. You can make this a day of indulgence down to the food you will serve or you can choose to serve natural or healthy snacks.

If the former is more to your taste, then dishes that are really delicious albeit a wee bit unhealthy will be part of your menu. This will vary from each person, but generally, anything with chocolate, quite expensive so is not anybody’s typical fare like gourmet dishes, ice cream, and a good wine will fit the bill.

The latter means salads, fresh fruits, some sashimi, nuts, mushrooms and the like. Take note that the second option doesn’t mean you and your guests are not allowed to enjoy your food. There are lots of good-tasting salads out there not to mention juicy and great-tasting fruits. If you think the salad will be tastier with a dollop of mayo in it, go ahead since nobody’s about to shake their head at you since this is not a health club or anything.

Just keep in mind that whether you go one way or the other, great tasting food is a MUST for any party to be successful!

Tea Party Adult Birthday Party Menu

Different tea (hot or cold, your guests’ choice) should be the basics of your party menu, since how could you have a tea party, without the tea?! Of course, feel free to serve coffee, just in case you have non-tea drinkers in the room. Cakes, pastries like scones and cookies, should be served side by side, with all that tea and coffee that you’re serving.

Serve these yummy stuff using your best china set and silverware. That should do a lot for the tea party feel that you are aiming for.

If you still haven’t decided what your cake should be, there are two ways to approach this. Either go with the celebrant’s favorite cake or pastry or serve cakes with tea as one of its ingredients (check out this Green Tea Layer Cake recipe that we found). That is indeed a tough choice, which we’ll leave you to decide.

It shouldn’t come as a surprise, but your punch should be a tea punch or nothing. There are available instructions on the internet on how to concoct this very special tea beverage.

Toga Adult Birthday Party Menu

Throwing a Roman feast is definitely expected when you’re having a toga party. Since Romans love banquets and the like, the meal not being enjoyable will be the least of your guests’ complaints when you’re having a toga party.

Roman feasts usually start with some egg dish, hot sausages, olives, some asparagus and on really special occasions, even shell fish. These are followed by chicken, pheasant and different fish dishes (turbot, mullet and eels are great favorites) in some special sauce. Dishes which feature pork, bacon and venison also make an appearance, so do mushroom and other vegetable favorites.

Dessert usually includes almonds, grapes, dates, cheesecakes and tarts. Of course, wine of all types should be in abundance. As usual, just make sure that your food does not overpower your chosen wine and vice versa.

Serve everything using your silver and gold trays, as well as your special serving dishes. If you happen to have a collection of gold wine goblets, now seems like a good time to put them into use.

That should give you lots of choices for your toga party menu. We will leave it to you on whether to just prepare the food you’re serving using modern techniques, but if you prefer to go for authenticity, there are lots of Ancient Rome recipes and preparations available out there and they’re just a few google away.

Under The Sea 1st Birthday Party Menu

Seafood is of course the default choice if you’re having an under the sea party. But since seafood is still very general, we think that fish and chips, shrimp poppers, fish crackers, squid rings, shrimp and crab claw cocktails are great appetizers, followed by shrimp or seafood pasta.  If you want to serve something meatier, we think that grilled salmon or tuna is something you can consider for your main course.

Another option is to go for sashimis, since these are primarily under the seafood variety. But if you think only a few of your guests will appreciate a purely seafood selection, feel free to add some beef, chicken or pork, as long as you have sufficient amount of seafood served as well.

For your cake, you can have one which one can associate to a scene under the sea. You can choose to have tons of fishes in the picture, but one with lots of seaweeds, coral reefs and other sea elements will also be fine. We also think a seahorse cake is cool, but since we absolutely love crabs, we think that a cake with crabs in mind is really worth considering.

We are great fans of lemonade, and since it can also come in blue, it won’t just be a hit with your kiddie guests, it will also be a great theme-based addition. Again, if you feel like serving drinks in different color, as long as you have enough seafood dishes in the picture, a bunch of non-theme based drinks will not be a problem.

Western Adult Birthday Party Menu

Any dishes that are popularly served on barbecues can also be part of your western party menu. Hotdogs, ribs, and other meat dishes are good candidates. Corn on cob is definitely worth adding. Dishes with beans are also worth considering. With so many items to choose from, lack of food ideas is definitely not a problem when throwing your cowboy/girl party.

Serve your dishes using stoneware dining sets. If you have enough, your guests could also eat from similar plates and bowls. If you don’t have stoneware sets, dishes with horses and anything related to western stuff, will also be sufficient.

You also have lots of options for your cake. You could have a horse cake, a cowboy hat cake, or a delicious-looking boot cake.

And to wash everything down, you can serve some root beer float as your official western beverage. Yummy!

Wine Adult Birthday Party Menu

You should have a pretty well stocked bar if you're going for this party theme. But of course it's not just all about the wine. We know for a fact that there's nothing like complimentary snacks to munch on which will make a complete drinking experience.

Different kinds of cheese, some crackers with cool spreads (we love any basil and spinach-based spreads), olives, tapas, mushrooms, are just some of the snack candidates.

If you want to serve something more than cheese and crackers, some herbed chicken and lamb are worth looking at. Some pastas are also worth considering. Basically, you have lots of food choices, you just need to ensure that your food does not overpower the wine you're serving and vice versa.

As for your cake, any berry-based cheese cake seem like a good idea. Again, the rule about the food not overpowering your wine should apply.

There's nothing like hot coffee as a meal concludes, and after all that wine, we bet your friends will welcome a cuppa.
